The four remaining chefs must re-create a dish without a recipe, using only their eyesight, their noses and their senses of taste. The winner gets a day at a spa while the losers do the Hell’s Kitchen laundry before it’s time for another dinner service
In the penultimate episode of the eighth season of Hell’s Kitchen, Chef Ramsay turns out the pressure on the remaining four aspiring chefs with the promise that two will be sent home at the end of the episode. For the episode’s challenge, the chefs are tasked to create fusion dishes by mixing cuisines from two different countries. The winner is sent for a lunch date with Chef Ramsay and their family, while the losers have to do “moving day” and then prep the kitchen for service, being held that evening. At service, Chef Ramsay gives the greatest challenge yet by asking all the chefs to try running the hot plate. Sous chef Scott sabotages dishes at random to test the chefs.
The final four chefs compete in the third-to-last episode of the season for a shot at becoming the next winner of Hell’s Kitchen. Chef Ramsay challenges the remaining chefs with the “taste it then make it” challenge in which they have to taste a dish that he created and then try to recreate that dish as close as possible to the original, based only on taste. The winning chef is treated to a spa day, while the losers are placed on laundry duty. That evening, during dinner service, the chefs turn in the best performance yet, despite some initial hangups. Chef Ramsay is so pleased that he gives everyone a delightful surprise following the service.
